The Toyota Mirai is on sale and being delivered in Japan, but it’s so popular that people ordering today will have to wait until 2018 to actually receive their vehicle!
In September 2015, the Mirai will go on sale in the U.S.A. European sales will follow, likely starting in the UK and Germany.
Despite the shortage of vehicles in Japan, U.S. customers won’t have to wait. Toyota aims to build 700 Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles this year with 400 for Japan, and 300 being sent to the USA and Europe. Toyota has not decided how to divvy up shipments between the U.S. and Europe, but sales goals for the U.S. are ambitious – Toyota wants to sell 3,000 Mirais there by the end of 2017.
On January 15th, Toyota President Akio Toyoda delivered the first Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicle to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
At the ceremony, Toyoda said “This is a historic step and I’m truly excited. This will be a long journey, and to make this first step truly historic we will all need to work together.” Continue Reading ->
