We live near Santa Cruz in CA and work in San Jose. In between goes hwy 17 through the Santa Cruz mountains. Going up to the summit and down the other side each day affects our mileage, I believe. Instead of the advertised 300 miles/tank we're getting from 215 to 250 miles/tank.

I speculate that this is because the power from regenerative braking is being lost due to a fully-charged battery. If the battery were to be allowed to discharge further while going up the hill, it would leave more capacity to charge from braking while going down the hill, and therefore be a more energy-conservative system.

So, the question is: Is there a way for users to have some influence over how deeply the batteries are discharged before the FC kicks in?

Possible opportunities: Power/ECO/standard mode. I'm looking for Toyota to chime in and tell me if any of these can be used.
